“The issue of God speaking was a major concern for me when I first came to know Jesus as my Savior. Countless times I heard people say these words “God spoke to me.” I wanted to hear God too. After month’s of wrestling with it, the first words God said in my spirit were, ‘You have not learned how to listen’. Learning how to listen is a journey. Learning to know His voice is a process. It is not a fast-food put it in the microwave for 60 seconds kind of thing. There are Bible truths that will help make the journey easier.”

The Issue of Location
The first thing you should know is the composite nature of man contains three parts.
- Man is a three part being
1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Man is a spirit being. Notice the word ‘spirit’ is first in the list.
- People mix the order u but the order is very specific.
Heb. 4:12 – tells us that the Word is able to divide soul and spirit
If spirit and soul can be divided, they cannot be the same. - Why does knowing you are a spirit being help you?
How does this help you in this area of hearing God?
God is a spirit. John 4:24 tells us that.
If we understand the fact that God is always speaking, then all we have to do is find out what arena He is speaking in and go and check there.
If you desire to hear any public speaker speak, you have to go where they are.
So, where is this God, who is spirit?
Where is He and what is His arena?
Spirit Life is An Inside Job
- A little different way of looking at the Spirit of God in you.
We always look at the Spirit in you from our perspective. From the perspective of how does the Holy Spirit being in us benefit us.
He does benefit us. He leads us. He teaches us. He helps us pray. He comforts and encourages us and He shows us Jesus.
Have you ever looked at this from God’s perspective?
Question for you today was there any benefit to God, to have His Spirit abiding in you?
We understand that there is benefit to us, to have Him, the Holy Spirit, living and abiding in us.
The Holy Spirit Our Guarantee
- One of the workings of the Spirit is to seal us.
The seal indicates authenticity and ownership.
If you have been sealed by Him, why would He not communicate with you?
The Spirit is Always Speaking
- It is imperative that we agree with His direction.
The January Phenomenon
The January Phenomenon is a clue about the realities of the Spirit of God speaking.
He will talk to you in the area of your focus.
Act like you are best friends with the Holy Spirit because you are.
Acting like you are best friends is faith.
