Facing Fear Fearlessly

Fear is the number one attack of the enemy that you will face on planet earth. The earth is a fear filled place. The number one fear is the fear of death. It is right that believers are being led to write books about it. It is right for preachers to preach on it. It is right for you to have an arsenal of books and tapes on it, to help you combat it. It is right for you to mark out in your Bible or to have lists of scriptures that help you in this fight. At all costs fear must be eliminated from your life. What steps can we take in order to rid our lives of this deadly enemy?

1 John 4:17 through 1 John 4:18 (KJV)
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Fear is the number one attack of the enemy that you will face on planet earth.

  • God is extremely intent on its demise as we have over 125 scriptures with the simple phrase ‘Fear not’.

The Ultimate Root Of Fear Is Death.

Hebrews 2:14–15 (ESV)
14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

  • The annihilation of Satan at Calvary produced, according to the context of this verse, one startling fact – Satan has been annihilated – all of which points to one thing.
    The ultimate root of all fear is death
    The mother fear – the fear that has all these (phobias) children is the fear of death.
    Victory over fear of death is not just saying, “I am ready to go and be with Jesus”

 Fear Unchecked Produces Strongholds

  • Note the phrase – ‘subject to lifelong slavery’
    Fear produces enslavement.
    Anything that enslaves us is always crosswise to the Bible and crosswise to the ministry of Jesus because everything about Jesus, everything about the Holy Spirit and everything about the Word of God is about freedom.

John 8:31–32 (ESV)
31 …“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

  • Fear produces slavery or bondage and we need to be totally free from it.

Fear Of Death Seeps Into Every Area On Planet Earth

  • They are broken down into two categories under this heading
  • Category #1: What might happen to me personally that may cause me to die.
  • Category #2:  What might happen to people I care about that may cause them to die
  • If you get the fear of death settled, you back up from there and examine all the other fears in the light of that one fear (just like I did here).  This brings liberation and deliverance.  Because if you are really ready to die and be with Jesus what difference does it make if I run out of money – I won’t need it where I am going anyway!
  • This is so important because its irony at its highest point
  • The number one fear is the fear of death
  • That fear itself is so powerful that possessing it also produces death itself.
  • Fear of death produces death
  • The only way to stop this process is to get rid of it.

Fear Of Death Produces Death

  • From the cradle to the grave, fear casts its shadow.
  • fear betrays a man’s spirit;
  • breaks down his defense,
  • disarms him in the battle,
  • makes him unfit him for the work of life,
  • and adds terror to his dying bed.

What Is Fear

  • Synonyms for Fear
  • alarm, consternation, dismay, fright, horror, panic, terror, trepidation, trepidity
  • Dread
  • Emotional foreboding or dread of impending distress or misfortune.[1]
  • To anticipate with great apprehension or fear.
  • Greek word is phobis – where we get the English word phobia
  • These definitions are an important clue in helping us combat fear.

Fear, An Emotional Response, Is In The Soul Arena

  • Knowing that fear is dread (along with its other synonyms, read these verses carefully:

1 John 4:17–19 (ESV)
17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 19 We love because he first loved us.

  • ‘perfect love casts out fear’
  • Love is in your spirit
  • Fear is in your soul
  • So then, what’s in your spirit man will cast out what’s in your soul (now all we need is the definition for ‘cast’ and we have it made)

DEFINITION: cast/βάλλω/ballō – throw, drive out, expel

  • Perfect love drives out fear
  • Perfect love expels fear.

HOW DO I ANNIHILATE FEAR FROM MY LIFE?

Remember To Differentiate Between The Feeling Of Fear And Fear Itself.

  • Real fear is not the feeling – it is the action that you take or don’t take based on the feeling that you have.

Deal with fear from the right realm

  • Love, which is in your spirit will push out what’s in your soul.
  • It is not statistics that overcome fear.
  • Statistics appeal to the brain.
  • A statistic is the soul trying to deal with the soul.
  • You don’t logic your way out of fear.
  • God’s Word works in your spirit and the outworking of the Word from your spirit affects your soul.
  • Love is an inside force.
  • Statistics is an outside force.
  • Love is the antidote to fear.

Do The Thing You Fear And The Death Of Fear Is Certain.

  • Run at fear
  • Do it if you have to do it scared – just do it!

Use The Feeling Of Fear As A Trigger For Faith

Fear knocked at the door. Faith answered. No one was there!

Psalm 27:1 (AV)
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Matthew 6:24–25 (AV)
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Psalm 23
Loving God, loving people and allowing love to develop and mature in me will absolutely annihilate fear.

  • I don’t have to fear death because He loves me! And because He loves me, He will protect me!

Conclusion:

  • Fear makes man believe the worst. Fear makes men imagine the worst.
  • The Bible gives you faith to believe the best and imagine the best.
