Soul Power for Your Present Hour

Finagle’s Laws of Information state the following:  One, the information you have is not what you want.  Two, the information you want is not what you need. 1 In this information glutted age, how does one discern between the two?How can you tell what you want from what you need? Knowing the answer is a key to keep your soul from going tilt.

This is part two of the Series entitled, ‘Soul Power for Your Present Hour’. Voices and Choices

1 Corinthians 14:10 (KJV)
10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.

  • Something or someone is always talking to you.
  • There are many voices in the world.
  • There are voices in the spirit realm.
  • These voices are constantly wishing to be heard.
  • They are continually trying to input into our lives.
  • They are continually trying to establish our thinking and sway us to their side.
  • The subject matter of these voices is varied.
  • Everyone has an opinion about everything.
  • With these voices come choices.
  • How do we discern all the input?
  • How do we tell what’s God and what isn’t?
  • Can you control the voices?
  • Can you shut them down?
  • How does 21st century human on planet earth deal with the input overload in this internet driven information glutted system now in place on planet earth?
  • These are all good questions.

Dealing with the Information Overload

  • We have to come to a place where we can tune out the voices so you can tune into the Word.
  • We must come to a place of maturity and growth and establishment in God.
  • This is the target for the child of God.

Ephesians 4:14 (GWT)
14 Then we will no longer be little children, tossed and carried about by all kinds of teachings that change like the wind. We will no longer be influenced by people who use cunning and clever strategies to lead us astray.

  • Did you hear that phrase in this translation, ‘No longer influenced by people?’
  • You can substitute the word “voices” for “influenced by people” in this verse.
  • We should not be influenced by voices who try to use cunning and cleaver strategies to lead us astray.

God’s Leadings Are Not Multiple Choice

  • The first thing we have to realize is God’s leadings are never multiple choice.
  • His witness in your heart is not a chance for democracy to shine.
  • You don’t get to vote on God’s witness to your heart.
  • What you get to do is recognize the leading and obey it.
  • Some people are making major mistakes because they are mixing the voice of their soul with the voice of their spirit.
  • God is a spirit.
  • He speaks to your spirit.
  • He is not a mind.
  • He doesn’t speak to your mind.
  • He is not going to contact your head.
  • He is going to speak up in your heart.
  • Meanwhile, your head is sitting there.
  • It’s like taking a piece of paper and drawing a circle.
  • The circle represents your head.
  • Now, draw a bunch of different arrows pointing to your head, maybe ten of them.
  • Those arrows represent different voices.
  • Different opinions from different sources which either have or are trying to make inroads into your thinking.
  • Now, draw a circle underneath the first circle.
  • This circle is your spirit.
  • Now draw a single upward arrow from your spirit to your head.
  • With this picture in mind, address this problem.
  • How can you tell the one arrow from your spirit from the other ten that are coming at your head?
  • Information overload right?
  • Thank God, the Bible tells us how to do it.
  • You have to divide the two.
  • You have to divide spirit from soul with the Word of God.

Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Fill Up with the Word

  • The Word is the key tool needed to separate spirit and soul.
  • The need to rightly divide implies that if you don’t separate the soul from the spirit, the leadings from God can get lost in the maze of all those arrows.
  • So, the first thing that will help you to hear your heart better is to make sure your heart is full of the Word.
  • If you desire to control your soul, you have to the help which only comes from God’s Word.
  • Knowing the Word gives you a point of comparison.
  • But what does the phrase ‘full of the Word’ mean though?
  • It means you should have a current, fresh, present hour, or right now experience with the area your having to deal with or make a decision about.
  • It’s a mistake to try and live on yesterday’s experience with the Word.

Why It’s Not Good to Live on Stale Manna

  • Do you remember the story of the children of Israel and their interaction with manna in the wilderness?

Exodus 16:4 (KJV)
4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

  • God provided for Israel every single day of their wilderness wanderings.
  • On Monday when they went out to the field to gather, there was enough manna for that day.
  • It didn’t matter how many people may have resided in a singe household.
  • When they went out, the provision was there.
  • If any of the children of Israel became greedy, if they tried to hoard, if they tried to get two days worth at one time, the extra they gathered would spoil, stink and turn to worms.
  • Why?
  • Why didn’t the Lord for the economy of labor?
  • Personally, we don’t go shopping for food every single day. In my household, we go shopping for food once a week. Sometimes once every two weeks.
  • But here the Lord wanted Israel to trust Him and gather just what they needed for that day and do it every single day (except for the Sabbath).
  • He wanted the everyday Israelite to have a fresh ‘bread experience’ every single day.
  • God desires the same for you.
  • A fresh bread experience everyday.
  • You shouldn’t try to coast on what you heard yesterday. You understand when I say yesterday, I mean last week, last month last year etc.
  • You can have a fresh experience with the bread of heaven every single day.
  • Don’t try to live on stale manna.
  • Stale manna is a Bible idiom meaning living on truths that you were taught in the yesterday of your life.
  • Stale manna is trying to draw from your ‘mental memory’ of those truths.
  • For the entire length of your life as a believer, you have heard Bible truth.
  • You’ve heard it from your pastor.
  • You’ve heard it from your Christian friends.
  • You’ve heard truth rise up out of your Bible reading.
  • Some have been saved ten, twenty, thirty years and the Lord by His Spirit has given you precious truth, precious manna along the way.
  • Those truths were fresh and alive in you during the season you heard them and they produced during that season of your life.
  • Those truths are eternal God seed.
  • They just need to be watered so they can come alive in you again. So, it can spring up in you again. So, it can become vitally real in your heart again.
  • That way, you aren’t trying to act on the Word out of your head, out of the memory of what you heard.
  • In the natural you don’t do this.
  • You don’t do in the area of food do you?
  • You don’t live on the memory of the steak you had last week, do you?
  • If you don’t practice this with physical food, you certainly shouldn’t try it with spiritual food.
  • This is why the subject of spirit, soul, and body is so important to understand.
  • The Word has to be current in your heart.
  • How do you make it current?
  • How do you water it so it comes alive in your heart?
  • Go back and revisit those truths.
  • Get your Bible.
  • Get those verses.
  • Reread them.
  • Think about them until the flame of that truth ignites once again in your heart.
  • There are several lines of teaching which I try to renew myself in constantly, every year.
  • I just got of vacation and reread ‘The Believers Authority’ by Kenneth Hagin.
  • I’ve read that book I don’t know how many times.
  • I keep rereading it so I can can keep that truth, ‘The Believer’s Authority’ fresh inside me.
  • Then, when one of the world’s voices, one of those arrows I was referencing earlier try to make n inroad into my head, it’s easy to recognize it. It’s divide because it’s fresh in my heart.
  • So to control the soul, fill up on the Word, and don’t live on stale manna.
  • That leads us to this second idea in this area of controlling the soul.

Talk to Your Soul

  • What do you mean talk to your soul?
  • I mean talk to your soul.
  • You talk to inanimate objects all the time don’t you?
  • I talk to my computer all the time.
  • Sometimes it doesn’t want to act right and I get frustrated with it so I talk to it and I tell it a thing or to.
  • Talk to your soul.
  • The most spiritual people on planet earth talk to their souls.
  • David did it.
  • The Sons of Korah did it.

Psalm 42:5 (KJV)
5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him For the help of his countenance.

  • Here the psalmist asks his soul what the problem is.
  • “What’s your problem soul?
  • Why are you causing such a ruckus in me?”
  • Talk to your soul.
  • Well, what do you say to it?
  • It depends what it’s saying to you.

Quote the Word to Your Soul

In the Area of Sinful Thoughts

  • If you get a sinful thought in your soul, how do you respond to that?
  • Answer the thought with the Word.
  • Speak to the thought.
  • Tell it shut-up in Jesus Name.
  • It will stop immediately.
  • Use the Name of Jesus and quiet your soul.
  • What if it starts back up again later?
  • Go through the process again.
  • It will stop. Guaranteed or your money back.
  • Every thought needs to be answered.

In the Area of Logic

2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

  • The word ‘imaginations’ in the Greek means logical conclusions. A proposition arrived at by consideration or reasoning.
  • The Bible says ‘throw down logical conclusions.’
  • What does that mean?
  • Is following God a logical affair?
  • Israel applied logic to their situation and ended up in a wilderness of trouble.
  • The Lord told them to send out spies to spy out the land He was going to give after He brought them out of Egyptian slavery (Numbers 13:2).
  • They did so and arrived at a logical conclusion concerning what they encountered.

Numbers 13:28–33 (KJV)
28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan. 30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. 31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. 32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. 33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

  • Israel reasoned their situation out in their soul based on what they physically saw.
    • They said…
      • The cites are walled in.
      • The walls are really huge and thick.
      • Their are too many ‘Ites’ living in the land.
      • There are not only way too many nations to overcome, the giants are there also.
      • They are stronger than we are.
      • They have more military, better armies, and more weaponry than we have.
      • They are bigger, and badder than we.
      • They are more powerful than a locomotive and can leap tall buildings with a single bound.
  • So Israel came to a logical unified conclusion.
  • There is no way we can take them.
  • That conclusion cost them 40 years of chasing snakes out of their tents.
  • That’s what logical conclusions, or mental reasoning’s do.
  • They cause you to wander in the wilderness of worthlessness when you could have enjoyed the promised land of power.
  • You see while Israel’s was making their logical list, they omitted the one line item which really mattered.
  • God told them “I am going to give you this land.”
  • Joshua and Caleb had that fact on their list.
  • They thought in line with the Word.
  • They factored the Word of God into their thinking.
  • And because they did, they entered into the Promised Land.
  • So, don’t forget to introduce Gods Word to the conclusions of your soul.

[Tweet “Israel’s logical unbelieving conclusion cost them 40 years of chasing snakes out of their tents.”]

Command Your Soul

Psalm 103:1 (KJV)
1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: And all that is within me, bless his holy name.

  • Here is another instance of ‘talking’ to your soul.
  • David is the author of Psalm 103 and here he is talking to his soul.
  • He is commanding his soul to praise and bless God.
  • Catch the word ‘and’ in this verse.
  • ‘And all that is within me.’
  • He is talking to his soul and all that is within him.
  • Here you have a clear reference to spirit, soul and body.

2 Corinthians 4:16 (KJV)
16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

  • David’s inward man, the all that is within him’ is directing the soul.
  • From your heart, from the sense of God you have within in you, you can direct your soul.
  • Remember what Jesus said.

Matthew 15:19 (KJV)
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication’s, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

  • Speaking from the negative side, the side of an unsaved man, Jesus said from his heart proceeds evil.
  • Once a man comes to Jesus, the story is changed.
  • He becomes a new creature in Christ.
  • The old things of evil have passed away.
  • The new man is a man of righteousness and from his heart proceeds praise, adoration and respect for God.
  • And from that new man, that inward man, that born again new creation man, you speak to your soul and direct it what to do, what to think on, when to bless.
  • Talk to your soul.
  • You are in charge.
  • Your head is not the devils junk yard.
  • He can’t just dump anything he wants to in it.
  • Cast down those wrong thoughts and replace them with right thoughts.
  • God thoughts.
  • Replace them with praise.

Call to Action:
