God in the Flesh

Question: “Would it be possible to discuss God’s manifestation into flesh, and the triune God. I’m confused, or misled in my understanding. Essentially, some say God was Jesus all the time; yet, others he is the son and his father.” – Mary Gentry

Great Question Mary,

Jesus was indeed God in the flesh.

John 1:1 (NKJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
In the beginning before man ever existed, there was God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
You know the story. God made man in his image and likeness (Gen. 1:27) and placed him the garden with one edict – do not eat of the tree (Gen. 2:15).

Man in disobeying the edict, died twice.
Spiritual death was immediate.
Physical death came about as a slower manifestation.
God had an answer for the sin problem (Gen. 3:15).
The answer involved the Son of God taking upon himself human form.
Heb. 10:5 is important in this thread.

Hebrews 10:5 (NKJV)
5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me.

A body was prepared for Jesus. Jesus like His Father God was a spirit (Jn. 4:24).
It was a body without the sin nature infecting it.
That was the reason why the the virgin birth was necessary.
The sin nature is passed from one person to another through the seed of a man (Ps. 51:5).

Psalm 51:5 (NKJV)
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.

Philippians now carries us the rest of the way.

Philippians 2:5–10 (NKJV)
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

Jesus, who preexisted as God became a man, a God man, or known in the gospels as the Son of Man or as your question is put God in the flesh.

1 Corinthians 15:45 (NKJV)
45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

Hope this helps,

Blessings,

Emery
