Officials Defend School Prayer in Oklahoma and Alabama

Prayer in SchoolOklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt has taken a high profile stand for religious freedom.
Pruitt officially told the state board that governs sporting activities that it can no longer ban student prayer at school sports events.
He argues that a current policy blocking public prayer at playoff events is too broad.
“You just can’t uniformely, arbitrarily say, ‘We are going to allow all speech except religious speech,’ and that is why it is overbroad,” Pruitt said.

Soaring with Eagles: How to Live In High Places

In part one of this series Soaring with Eagles: How to Know You Are Destined for Greatness we mentioned there are clues about man in the creation of the eagle. We spoke about the ‘swiftness’ of the eagle and how Johnathan and Saul were designated eagles. But there are other ‘eagle’ clues about you. Let’s look at a second one.

As long as you are alive, as long as breath courses through your body, there is a next step for your life. God is not the God of the dead-end.

John 14:6 (KJV)
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

#S2-002: Secrets to Hearing God: Are You Waiting? [Podcast]

Secrets to Hearing God

In close connection with listening to God is the idea of “waiting on God.” People are hindered from receiving direction from God simply because they are not waiting around long enough to hear what He has to say. We are religiously praying instead of spiritually listening. Waiting to hear is part of the prayer discipline.

Oregon College Shooter Specifically Targeted Christians

OregonA shooting took place Thursday at Umpqua Community College in Oregon where witnesses said the gunman specifically targeted Christians.

Fox News reports that the shooter, Christopher Harper Mercer, killed at least nine people and wounded at least seven, although some sources believe the death toll could be as high as 13.

The shooting took place in the small town of Roseburg, Oregon where witnesses said Mercer shot victims in a number of classrooms.

One student, Kortney Moore, said her Writing 115 teacher was shot in the head. The New York Post reports that another witness said the shooter began asking people about their faith.

“‘Are you a Christian?’ he would ask them, and if you’re a Christian, stand up. And they would stand up and he said, ‘Good, because you’re a Christian, you are going to see God in just about one second.’ And then he shot and killed them,” said Stacy Boylan, whose daughter was wounded in the shooting.

Secrets to Hearing God

Welcome to Season 2 of Light on Life. You can listen to Season 1 Podcasts here.

This story on listening is an appropriate intro into our new series on learning to hear God’s voice.

Barbara, five, had disobeyed me and was sent to her room. After a few minutes, I went in to talk with her about what she had done. Teary-eyed, she asked, “Why do we do wrong things, Mommy?” “Sometimes the Devil tells us to do something wrong, and we listen to him,” I said. “We need to listen to God instead.” “But God doesn’t talk loud enough!” she wailed 1.

How loud God speaks is not the determining factor in hearing Him. Knowing how to listen is so much more vital. Here are some tips to helping you hear your Father God in your everyday life.

How Do I Find My Place in God?

Josh McDowell told this great story. An executive hirer, a “headhunter” who goes out and hires corporation executives for other firms, once told me, “When I get an executive that I’m trying to hire for someone else, I like to disarm him. I offer him a drink, take my coat off, then my vest, undo my tie, throw up my feet and talk about baseball, football, family, whatever, until he’s all relaxed. Then, when I think I’ve got him relaxed, I lean over, look him square in the eye and say, “What’s your purpose in life?” It’s amazing how top executives fall apart at that question. “Well, I was interviewing this fellow the other day, had him all disarmed, with my feet up on his desk, talking about football. Then I leaned up and said, ‘What’s your purpose in life, Bob?’ And he said, without blinking an eye, ‘To go to heaven and take as many people with me as I can.’ For the first time in my career I was speechless.” What about you? Do you know what your place is in God? Do you know how to find it?

It’s a sad thing when demons recognize Jesus, but people don’t.

Mark 1:34 (KJV)
34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
