Why You Need To Know Who You Are In Christ

Podcast: Light on Life Season Eleven Episode Seventeen

Why You Need To Know Who You Are In Christ

As Paul closes out his segment on the division, the boasting, and the immaturity that was in this church, he ends chapter one with the marvelous reality that God placed us ‘In Christ.’ ‘Because of Him you are in Him, is what Paul states. But, what does that mean to be ‘in Christ?’ Tony Evans shared an object lesson that highlights one aspect of what it means to be ‘in Christ.’ Here’s his illustration. Tony said, “I’VE GOT three envelopes: a big one, a smaller one, and a smaller one yet. I’ve also got a slip of paper. [So, three envelopes — one piece of paper] The Bible says that we are in Christ and that Christ is in us. The smallest envelope has “Tony Evans” written on it. The slip of paper has “Jesus” written on it. The Bible says that when Tony Evans accepted Jesus Christ, He came inside of Tony Evans. Christ, [so we take] the slip of paper, [and we put it] inside the envelope that represents Tony Evans. But, not only is Christ in Tony Evans, but [it’s also true that] Tony Evans is in Christ. The slip of paper Christ is in Tony Evans, but when Tony Evans accepted Christ, Tony Evans came inside of Christ. [that’s the second envelope] I put the Tony Evans envelope into the Christ envelope. Now, the Bible says that Christ is in God. [God the Father is the third envelope] So we’re going to slip the Christ envelope into the God envelope. [So, what you see on the outside is a single envelope marked God on the outside. [So, where is Tony Evans now? You can’t see him.] So in order to now get to Tony Evans, you’ve got to go through God, and then you have to go through Christ, and after you’ve gone through God, and gotten through Christ, then [and only then] you get to Tony Evans. However, when you’ve gone through God, and gotten to Christ, and think you’ve have gotten ahold of Tony Evans, when you open up Tony Evans, he’s full of Jesus Christ. So I am in Christ, Christ is in me, Christ is in God, God is in Christ, so I am well covered by Jesus Christ and His heavenly Father.1 This is a marvelous illustration which shows that as long as you remain in Him, you are safe and secure. That’s why in this week’s podcast, our focus is ‘Why You Need To Know Who You Are In Christ’ — all on this week’s Light on Life.

Freedom Insights from the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus

Podcast: Light on Life Season 9 Episode 26

Freedom Insights from the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus

Freedom insights from the book of Romans is the subject we want to dwell on in this week’s podcast. As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day here in the United States, the freedom issue looms even more and more pronounced than ever. Roe V Wade was just overturned, a truly historic moment in the annuals of the human experience. The protests surrounding the decision deal with the idea of freedom of choice. But is that what freedom is really about? Is it only freedom to choose, or is it something more? In Romans 8:2, Paul says, ‘For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.’ You’re totally free because of Jesus if you only know it. Freedom Insights from the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus that’s our focus on this week’s Light on Life podcast.

Who Are You According to Jesus?

Podcast: Light on Life Season Seven Episode Twelve

Who Are You?

The INTERNET is full of surveys and questionnaires that you can take to help you understand who you are. Tony Evans chimed in on this topic with the following illustration. He said, ‘I’ve got three envelopes: a big one, a smaller one, and a smaller one yet. I’ve also got a slip of paper. The Bible says that we are in Christ and that Christ is in us. The smallest envelope has “Tony Evans” written on it. The slip of paper has “Jesus” written on it. The Bible says that when Tony Evans accepted Jesus Christ, Christ came inside of Tony Evans. Christ, the slip of paper, is inside the envelope that represents Tony Evans, but not only is Christ in Tony Evans, but Tony Evans is in Christ. The slip of paper Christ is in Tony Evans, but when Tony Evans accepted Christ, Tony Evans came inside of Christ. I put the Tony Evans envelope into the Christ envelope. Now, the Bible says that Christ is in God. So we’re going to slip the Christ envelope into the God envelope. So to now get to Tony Evans, you’ve got to go through God, and then you have to go through Christ, and after you’ve gone through God, and gotten through Christ, then you get to Tony Evans. However, when you’ve gone through God, and gotten to Christ, and think you’ve have gotten ahold of Tony Evans when you open up Tony Evans, he’s full of Jesus Christ. So I am in Christ, Christ is in me, Christ is in God, God is in Christ, so I am well covered by Jesus Christ and His heavenly Father.’ 1 Identity, knowing you are. That’s our focus on this week’s Light on Life.

#S4-044: Why the Law of the Spirit of Life Sets You Free [Encore Podcast]

The Law of the Spirit that Produces Life Will Set You Free from Death

Years ago when slavery was officially abolished in Jamaica, some of the slaves in the remote areas did not know of their freedom. Years after their release had been announced they still continued to serve their masters, oblivious to the fact that they were legally free. Their owners kept the news from the slaves as long as possible, hoping to extract every ounce of work from their captives. These people put up with these conditions for only one reason. 1 They didn’t know they were free. In Rom. 8:2 Paul says For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. You’re totally free because of Jesus if you only know it.

What is the Believer in Jesus Staircase to Glorification?

Roaming through Romans

The Bible speaks of our calling in Christ. What we are called from and called to? We are called from labor to rest (Matt. 11:28); from death to life (1 John 3:14); from bondage to liberty (Gal 5:13); darkness into light (1 Pet. 2:9); from bondage to peace (1 Cor. 7:15) and finally called to the fellowship of His Son (1 Cor. 1:9) 1 But our calling is only one step of a believers staircase. What are some of the other steps? We will take a look at this in this week’s blog as we continue marching through Romans chapter eight.

Why Redeemed People Can Walk Free from Fear

An Indian fable says that a mouse was in constant distress because of its fear of the cat. A magician took pity on it and turned it into a cat. Immediately it became afraid of the dog. So the magician turned it into a dog. Immediately it began to fear the tiger. So the magician turned it into a tiger. Immediately it began to fear the hunter. Then the magician said, “Be a mouse again, you have only the heart of a mouse and I cannot help you.” If you have Holy Spirit ‘In Him’ truths registered in your heart, if you know who you are in Christ, you can walk free from areas which have hindered you in the past. In this post we are going to look at one of those areas, fear. You can boldly walk free from fear in Jesus Name.

Are You Leaving Your Home Naked?

The personal wardrobe of one of Chicago’s wealthiest women was estimated at twenty-five thousand pieces of apparel. The clothes included more than one thousand dresses—with a purse to match each dress—some five hundred coats and fifteen hundred pairs of shoes. 1  You have heard the phrase: “Clothes make the man”? The Bible uses ‘clothing’ language to describe the state of our redemption in Christ. There are things that we are to put on and things that we are not to put on, things that are to clothe our lives and things that are not to clothe our lives.  The question for us as representatives of Jesus is this; are you wearing the right clothes or are you leaving your home naked?

#S2-026: Why Keeping the Law Won’t Get You to Heaven [Podcast]

Roaming through Romans

You’ve probably heard it said, “It doesn’t matter what you believe; it’s how you live that counts.” Is this true? A. J. Gordon encountered this philosophy one time as he talked with a fellow passenger on a train. The man believed he could get to heaven by his good works. Pointing to the conductor who was making his way through the coach, Gordon asked his new friend, “Did you ever notice how carefully he always examines the ticket but takes no pains whatever to inspect the passenger?” … “You see,” continued Gordon, “the passenger and the ticket are accepted together. If [the passenger] doesn’t have [a ticket], or has the wrong one, he will be asked to get off the train—no matter how honest he might appear to be. Just as the ticket stands for the man, faith stands for you.” 1 You have to have the right ticket to make it to heaven. Keeping the law is not it.

Why Your Identifying with Jesus Destroys Insecurity

People identify with the noise of inferiority, with the noise of insecurity, with the noise of a lack of self-esteem. But, you don’t have to have that identity because God has carved one out especially for you.  You have a choice about the voice in your head. You can choose to go with what God’s Word says about you.
