A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, 3rd Edition (University of Chicago Press, 2001)

A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, is also known as BDAG from the authors initials. This is the top of the line Greek lexicon in existence today and my go to study tool for word definitions. The lexicon gives you an extensive list of how New Testament words are used not only in the New Testament, but in the Greek literature of biblical times. Semantically, words can change meaning depending on time and usage. One of the particular strengths of BDAG is that it gives variations of definitions as a word is used in different verses, so what you end up with is the correct contextual definition. The Master Is Calling (Whitaker House; 2 edition, 2000)

I have read many books on the subject of prayer from the plethora of  E.M Bounds, to the stirring passion of Leonard Ravenhill to the always essential Andrew Murray.  But Lynne Hammonds book, because of it’s pragmatic nature in this arena, has been a great find. If you would like to learn to work with the Holy Ghost in prayer, The Master’s Calling; Discovering the Wonders of Spirit Led Prayer will pave the way. The book courses with practicality in this essential Christian discipline. The chapter entitled ‘Good Things Come to Those Who Wait’ is by itself worth the price of the book.

Demonstrating the Glory of God

Experiencing Gods presence on earth is training for our days as glorified sons of God. The glory of God is a tangible reality. We should soak in it, know it and understand all we can about it. In the Old Covenant, the Israelites saw it. In the New Covenant, we carry that same glory, that same presence of the Lord, in ‘our earthen vessel’ (2Cor. 4:7). The glory of God can be studied in scripture as a thread that runs through both Testaments. You will find out if you do so, that believers in Jesus are supposed to be demonstrators of His glory and we are to do so until all the earth is full of His Presence.

In Him [Scripture List]

Years ago there was a series on TV called “John Doe”. John Doe is about this person who wakes up on a desert island and has no idea who is. He suffers from retrograde amnesia. He has no clue about his past but he finds that has an extraordinary encyclopedic knowledge of everything else. If you name any town in the United States, he can tell you the population to the exact number. He can tell who the mayor was in that town, what year he was born and how much his tax return was the previous year to the exact dollar. He knows all about science; he knows all about plant life; he knows all about mechanics etc. and he uses this extraordinary encyclopedic knowledge of everything to help solve crimes. But all the while he is helping other people, he is trying to find out about his past. John Doe knows everything about everything except WHO HE IS. Knowing who you are in Christ is vital, transformational information. One thing is certain. If you will meditate on these verses until the reality of who are in Christ begins to dawn upon your heart, your life will never be the same.

His very strength that He has given us has been to bear the burdens of the weaker ones. His ability has been given to us for the benefit of those who lack ability. There will always be the weak and the inefficient. They will ever be learning but never coming to the reality of redemption. Because of this we must go out and serve the unworthy and the selfish, give ourselves as He gave Himself for us. He did not die for the righteous. He died for the unrighteous. He died for the ungodly. He died for men and women who have gone wrong, who have nothing to give Him but a shattered life. — E.W. Kenyon

#005: Choosing to Be Decisive [Podcast]

I am your constant companion. I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden. I will push you onward or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command. Half of the things you do you might as well turn them over to me and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly. I am easily managed – you must merely be firm with me. Show me exactly how you want something done and after a few lessons I will do them automatically. I am a servant of all great men; and alas, of all failures as well. Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures. I am not a machine, though I work with the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a man. You may run me for profit or run me for ruin – it makes no difference to me. Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet. Be easy with me and I will destroy you. Who am I? I am a habit! Today, we are going to talk about the habit of decisiveness.

In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing. — Teddy Roosevelt

Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it’s at work or with family. Live life so completely that when death comes to you like a thief in the night, there will be nothing left for him to steal. — Anonymous
