Scriptures to Feed Your Faith and Combat Fear

Fear Not Scripture List

Here Are 125 Fear Not Scriptures

A young girl stands in a picturesque meadow. In another part of the field is a gigantic African rhinoceros, which begins charging toward the girl. Her serene and happy face remains unmoved. As the rhinoceros gets closer, the words appear on the screen, “Trust is not being afraid.” A split second before the rhino tramples the helpless child, it stops, and the girl, her smile never wavering, reaches up and pets the animal on its massive horn. The final words then appear, “even when you are vulnerable.” The commercial was designed to tout the abilities of an insurance company to protect its clients from the uncertainties of life. How much more does it describe the believer, who can say with the psalmist, “I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust’ ” (Psalm 91:2)!1 Just like this little girl in this commercial, believers in Jesus can stand fearlessly in the face of the charging rhinos in Satan’s herd. ‘Fear not’ is not just a nice Sunday School suggestion. It’s a commandment laced throughout the entirety of the Word of God. Because it’s a commandment from God, it’s also doable. It doesn’t take any special act of grace or prayer to make it good in your life. All it takes is simple obedience.

#S4-018: Why You Need to Receive God’s Hesed Mercy [Podcast]

God's Hesed Mercy Is Available for You to Receive from His Hand

Long ago, a poor woman from the slums of London was invited to go with a group of people for a holiday at the ocean. She had never seen the ocean before, and when she saw it, she burst into tears. Those around her thought it was strange that she should cry when such a lovely holiday had been given her. “Why in the world are you crying?” they asked. Pointing to the ocean she answered, “This is the only thing I have ever seen that there was enough of.” God has oceans of mercy. There is enough of it—and God delights to show his mercy and compassion (Micah 7:19). 1 Hesed is the Hebrew word for God’s covenant faithfulness and mercy. God’s very mercy flows out from His Throne. His instructions to us, as His children, is to boldly come to receive it when we need help.

Family versus Discipleship, Do You Have These Right?

Family Versus Discipleship: Do You Have It Right?

The family is such an important blessing from the hands of the God to the inhabitants of planet earth. We get to have a family in heaven and also experience family in the earth. Family is a bid deal. But, like all other blessings, there’s order and balance. We can allow any blessing from heaven to become bigger in our lives than the Blesser who bestowed it. That’s the danger. A Jesus follower has this issue to walk out. To enjoy the blessing of God all the while keeping God first in his heart and life. It’s a challenge for any disciple of Jesus. How are you doing in this all-important area?

#S4-017: Why You Need to See the World As God Sees It [Podcast]

Gospel Truths on Healing

We Need to See the World As God Sees It

One gentleman named ‘Brother Roloff’ had a friend who had quite a number of pigeons. On a certain occasion Brother Roloff, who lived in Ohio, was invited to the home of Vernon the pigeon man. Vernon told him about one particular bird in his collection. He said, “See this bird. I’ll point out just one. She flew the five hundred miles from St. Louis to Ohio non-stop!” Roloff said, “Non-stop! Now, let’s be done with this foolishness! You weren’t there. How do you know?” “Oh,” he said, “Brother Roloff, there’s a way to know. She came in clean.” He said, “What! Came in clean!” “When she came in, she had no flour and no mud, on her feet; and had nothing on her to make me think she had stopped. She came in clean.1 What is the concept of clean and unclean in the Old Testament? We need to see it as God sees it. We will continue to look into this idea as we pick-up where we left off in last week’s podcast on the ritual cleansing of the leper in Leviticus fourteen.

Focused Cross Carrying Disciple of Jesus Is That You?

Are You a Cross Carrying Disciple of Jesus?

It is possible to be a follower of Jesus without being a disciple; to be a camp follower without being a soldier of the king; to be a hanger-on in some great work without pulling one’s weight. Once someone was talking to a great scholar about a younger man. He said, “So and so tells me that he was one of your students.” The teacher answered devastatingly, “He may have attended my lectures, but he was not one of my students.” There is a world of difference between attending lectures and being a student. It is one of the supreme handicaps of the Church that in the Church there are so many distant followers of Jesus and so few real disciples.1 What kind of disciple are you?

Gospel Truths on Healing

The Cleansing of the Leper

Francis of Assisi was terrified of leprosy. And one day, full in the narrow path that he was traveling, he saw, horribly white in the sunshine, a leper! Instinctively his heart shrank back, recoiling shudderingly from the contamination of that loathsome disease. But then he rallied, and ashamed of himself, ran and cast his arms about the sufferer’s neck and kissed him and passed on. A moment later he looked back, and there was no one there, only the empty road in the hot sunlight. All his days thereafter he was sure it was no leper, but Christ Himself whom he had met.1 In last week’s podcast, we took a look at the who and what surrounding some of the Bible lepers. Today in Part two, we continue to look directly at the cleansing law of the leper found in Leviticus chapter fourteen.

How to Turn the World Upside Down

An Amusing Look

Hpw to Turn the World Upside Down

It takes a certain kind of Christian to turn the world upside down. It takes a bonafide cross-carrying disciple. Are you that kind of believer?  While thinking about this subject for this week’s blog post, I ran into this rather cool illustration of the Apostle Paul. This amusing piece was so long, I decided to make it the entire blog for this week.

Gospel Truths on Healing

The cleansing of a man with leprosy.

In last weeks’ podcast, we looked at some healing words used in the New Testament. We ended the podcast just touching on the healing word Jesus used when ministering to a man who had leprosy. This week, we take a more extensive look at the healing of the leper especially centering on the healing ritual surrounding the leper in Leviticus chapter fourteen. All this on this week’s Light on Life.

The Hypocrisy of Prejudice; The Man with the Gold Ring: James 2:2-4

The Epistle of James

The Bridge Commentary consists of four sections: Definitions, Background, Questions, and Comments.  The Definitions section explains all significant Greek words found in all the verses of this passage. The Background section contains material which will help to frame the passage in its 1st-century setting. The Questions section includes queries you may want to ask of the text. Finally, the Comments section contains observations of the verses sorted in word or phrase order.

The entire second chapter of James addresses two areas: the hypocrisy of partiality or prejudice (James 2:1-13) and the life-altering alliance between faith and works  (James 2:14-26). In the first area, using a real-life incident between a rich and poor man, James disassembles the sin of prejudice, as it existed among the congregation.

Have You Noticed the Beauty of the Sky Lately?

Have you noticed the beauty of the sky lately?

Are You Too Busy to Notice the Beauty?

  • The information, social media, and technology age in which we live have plotted against us I think.
  • Walk through any crowd of people and what do you see?
  • Everyone has their face pasted into a smartphone.
  • The question is, are we getting smarter?
  • Or are we missing the very beauty of God which is all around us?

Psalm 19:1 (ESV) — 1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

  • What do you think about these things?

Why You Don’t Have to Be Sick in Light of the Bible

Podcast: Light on Life Season Four Episode Fourteen

Why You Don't Have to Be Sick in Light of the Bible

The Bible teaches us why you don’t have to be sick. On January 17, 1993 Duane Miller was healed of throat condition that reduced his speech to a raspy whisper. While teaching his Sunday school class from Psalm 103 at the First Baptist Church in Brenham, Texas, Duane reaffirmed his belief in divine healing and that miracles had not ended with the Book of Acts. The miracle happened when he got to verse four, which says ‘who redeems your life from the pit’. On the word ‘pit’, his life changed. The word was completely clear. He paused, startled. He said a few more words—all in a normal clear tone—and stopped again. The class erupted with shouts of joy, astonishment, and sounds of weeping. God completely healed him. 1

How’s that for a healing testimony? While he read the Word, he received health. Doesn’t that match the scripture in Proverbs 4:20-22?

Proverbs 4:20–22 (KJV) — 20 My son, attend to my words; Incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, And health to all their flesh.

Get ready to be healed today.  We are going to be reading some healing verses, God may choose to heal you this way this day as we discuss “Why You Don’t Have to Be Sick in Light of the Bible”.  So, hook your faith up to His Word today. All this and more on this week’s Light on Life.

Why You Should Be Easy To Be Holy Spirit Led

We should allow ourselves to be easy to be led by the Holy Spirit.

The story of missions in more modern times tells of missionaries whose plans have been changed by the Holy Spirit.  Alexander Mackay prepared for work in Madagascar but was directed to Uganda, to aid in founding one of the most remarkable missions in the world. Carey proposed to go to the South Sea but was guided divinely to India, to give the Bible in their native tongue to its teeming millions. Judson wanted to go to India, but his course was changed and he went to Burma instead. When David Livingstone was twelve years of age, he read an appeal for missionaries to go to China and he decided to go. His next decision was to be a medical missionary. With this in view, he began to complete his medical studies. About the time he was ready to go, the Opium War broke out and Englishmen could not go to China. Robert Moffat was in England at that time telling of the South African mission. Livingstone was interested in Moffat’s story and said: “What is the use of waiting for the end of this abominable Opium War? I will go at once to Africa.” Thus the Holy Spirit led Livingstone to Africa and the dreadful slave trade was laid bare to the world. [—Mrs. A. L. Aulick, J.H. Bomberger; Paul Lee Tan, Encyclopedia of 7700 Illustrations: Signs of the Times (Garland, TX: Bible Communications, Inc., 1996), 488–489.] In today’s post, we are going to address why it’s important for a believer to be easy to be led by the Holy Spirit.
