#S4-013: Do You Have A New Vision for A New Year? [Podcast]

Do You Have A Vision for Your Life?

This is the New Years edition of Light On Life. This is the time of the year where people think about things like resolutions, goals, and vision for the upcoming year. Soon after the completion of Disney World, someone said, “Isn’t it too bad that Walt Disney didn’t live to see this?” Mike Vance, creative director of Disney Studios, replied, “He did see it—that’s why it’s here.” 1  Vision is seeing things invisible. Do you have a new vision for this new year?

Statements Of Faith And Consecration In The Area Of Hearing God

How's Your Hearing?

How You Can Hear God in Your Heart

In his book When You’re All Out of Noodles, Ken Jones writes about a lesson he learned one day at the office on hearing God.

[When I walked into my office,] I noticed something I had never seen before. It was round, about the size of a dessert plate, and plugged into the wall, giving out a constant noise. It wasn’t a loud noise, just constant. What in the world is that thing? I thought as I stopped to stare. I finally asked the receptionist about it. She said, “It’s an ambient noise generator. If it’s too quiet in here, we can distinguish the voices in the counseling offices, and we want to protect their privacy. So we bought the noise generator to cover the voices.” Her explanation made perfect sense to me but didn’t it have to be louder to mask the conversations, I asked. “No,” she said. “The constancy of the sound tricks the ear so that what is being said can’t be distinguished.” Interesting, I thought. Very interesting. One kind of noise to cover the sound of another. It made me think and pray. No wonder, Lord. No wonder I strain to hear what you have to say to me. The constancy of sound—little noises, soft, inward, ambient thoughts and fears and attitudes—tricks the ears of my inner man and masks your still, small voice. God isn’t silent. We just have trouble hearing him. 1

#S4-012: Why You Need to Understand What the Star of Bethlehem Really Means [Podcast]

The Christmas Podcast

Understanding the Reason Behind the Star of Bethlehem Will Help Your Faith in God.

God’s plan was thought up and set in motion before the foundations of the world (Eph. 1:4). Particular courses of events and situations, at times, align to bring into a focus a particular aspect of God’s wisdom and plan. Today, we are going to look at the birth of Jesus in this way. We are going to look at some of the events that came into view and we are going to ask a rather startling question about one of those events, the appearing of the star. Here is the question: ‘What would have happened, had the Star of Bethlehem not appeared?’

Are You A Christian in Hiding?

Are You A Christian in Hiding?

Don’t Be A Closet Hiding Christian

  • It’s not the way of Jesus.
  • Jesus told us so in the Sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 5:14 (KJV) — 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

  • Are you a Christian in hiding?
  • Have you hidden God’s plan for your life as the man with one talent did in Matthew 25?

Matthew 25:24–25 (KJV) — 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

  • Notice what caused this man to ‘go to earth’ with his talent, fear.
  • He said, ‘I was afraid.’
  • The message of Jesus to us today is fear not.

Luke 12:7 (KJV) — 7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

#S4-011: How Evil and Wickedness Is the Path to Sickness [Podcast]

Gospel Truths on Healing

Wickedness is the path to sickness.

Proverbs 6:12-15 shows some of the areas which cause sickness and disease to flourish on planet earth. Knowing what they are and determining to avoid them will help us live our lives in health and wholeness. Henry VIII was known for his many wives. It was the custom of those days for each of the bishops to make presents to the king on New Year’s Day. Bishop Latimer went with the rest of his brethren to make the usual offering; but, instead of a purse of gold, he presented the King with a New Testament, in which was a leaf doubled down to this passage, “Whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”1 I bet you that didn’t go over well with the King. We’re in Proverbs six and we are looking at the characteristics of worthless and wicked men which open the door to incurable diseases.

Why We Should Listen to the Word of God in the Person of Jesus

The Book of Hebrews

You Can Know God's Will if You Listen to Jesus.

It is almost impossible to talk and listen at the same time. If we do most of the talking, we cannot hear God speaking to us. In When I Relax I Feel Guilty, author Tim Hansel notes: An American Indian was in downtown New York, walking with his friend who lived in New York City. Suddenly he said, “I hear a cricket.” “Oh, you’re crazy,” his friend replied. “No, I hear a cricket. I do! I’m sure of it.” “It’s the noon hour. There are people bustling around, cars honking, taxis squealing, noises from the city. I’m sure you can’t hear it.” “I’m sure I do.” He listened attentively and then walked to the corner, across the street, and looked all around. Finally, on the corner, he found a shrub in a large cement planter. He dug beneath the leaves and found a cricket. His friend was astounded. But the Cherokee said, “No. My ears are no different from yours. It simply depends on what you are listening to. Here, let me show you.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of change.… And he dropped it on the concrete. Every head within a block turned. “You see what I mean?” he said as he began picking up his coins. “It all depends on what you are listening for.” In a church filled with a variety of sounds, the truth rings clear when we close our mouths and train our ears to listen for God’s Word.1

#S4-010: Why You Should Not Engage In Crooked Speech [Podcast]

Gospel Truths On Healing

Crooked Speech Opens the Door to Sickness and Disease

In the Word of God, there is absolutely a strong and solid connection between health and healing, between sin and sickness. You will find, as look at the Word, that there are verses which reference being healed and being saved both in the same verse. We are going to look at Proverbs six today and look at the connection between a sin and incurable diseases. One of those connections is crooked speech.

How to Unravel the Puzzle Which Is God’s Will

The Book of Hebrews

Finding God's WIll Can Be at Times Like Working a Puzzle.

Have you ever heard of the open window method in seeking God’s will? You put your Bible by a window and the pages blow and you put your finger on a verse. One man did that and pointed to the verse, “Judas went and hanged himself.” Not a very good life verse, and he did it again. This time he put his finger on the verse that said, “Go and do thou likewise.” The third verse he found said, “Whatsoever thou doest, do quickly.” 1 As you can tell from this illustration, this is not a very good method to ascertain God’s will. Here are some Bible thoughts along this line to help you in your journey.

Narrow is the Way Which Leads to Life

Narrow is the way which leads to true life.

Finding the Narrow Way

Walking in the eternal life of God is a simple and uncomplicated thing.

So says Jesus said in these stunning words while teaching His disciples the Sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 7:13–14 (NKJV) — 13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

  • All roads do not lead to Jesus.
  • There is only one road.
  • Only one path.
  • The way of the world is a broad wide way.
  • Diversity is not your friend in this particular area.

John 14:6 (NKJV) — 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

#S4-009: Why Incurable Diseases Are Surging And How to Protect Yourself [Podcast]

Gospel Truths On Healing

Incurable diseases are on the rise. You can protect yourself.

Incurable diseases are on the rise on planet earth. So says a September 2017 report. Why are they increasing? Is there any clue? Yes, thank God there is. The Word of God helps us to know why and also clues us into how to effectively close the door to them. Charles Kettering, the famous research scientist, is impatient with people who speak of insurmountable obstacles. “It is like the doctors with their incurable diseases,” he says. “Did you ever stop to think what an incurable disease is? It is one the doctor doesn’t know how to cure.” The doctors may not know but the Lord does. 1

Why You Need to Pour Your Jesus Life Into Others

Discipling Is Where You Pour Your Life Into Others

A young man who works in an aquarium explained that the most popular fish is the shark. If you catch a small shark and confine it, it will stay a size proportionate to the aquarium. Sharks can be six inches long yet fully matured. But if you turn them loose in the ocean, they grow to their normal length of eight feet. That also happens to some Christians. I’ve seen some of the cutest little six-inch Christians who swim around in a little puddle. But if you put them into a larger arena—into the whole creation—only then can they become great.1 Is it your goal in life to just be a cute six-inch puddle swimming Christian? Wouldn’t you rather get out into the ocean and make a big splash for the Kingdom of God? How do you do it? First, you have to make a decision about being willing to pour your life into others.
