Why Your Miracle Testimony of God's Healing Power Is Vital

Miracle testimonies of God’s power at work in our lives are something we ought to share. If you have a God story, you should not sit down on it unless the Lord instructed you not to tell it. The scripture says that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony. At the 1997 Brickyard 400 auto race, NASCAR driver Lake Speed learned firsthand the amazing effect of prayer. His car had been having mechanical problems. Sitting on the track in preparation for a qualifying run, he waited in frustration because his car wouldn’t start. Meanwhile, he prayed. Finally, his crew chief Jeff Buice took out a wrench and hand-cranked the engine Model-A style. The car started, and Lake Speed roared onto the track to post the second-fastest qualifying time of the day. Victor Lee writes in Sports Spectrum: Later, when Speed returned to the pits to get ready for a final practice session, he found his crew tearing out the engine. Shocked, he asked what was going on. “Lake, that engine was blown before you qualified,” Buice said, noting that it had blown during NASCAR pre-race inspection. Lake looked more closely. Oil was everywhere. Buice continued, “I wasn’t going to tell you anything because time had run out. But I was already trying to figure out how I would spend Saturday. Even if it started, I surely didn’t expect it to make a lap and surely not to run good enough to make the race.” Lake’s assessment: “God did a major mechanical miracle. I always pray right before the race. Sitting on that track, when it didn’t start, I prayed, ‘Lord, I don’t know what’s going on here, but if there’s any way, I’d like this thing to start.’ ” Driver Lake Speed went on to finish twelfth in the race, his second-best finish in 1997. You may say this has a perfectly natural explanation, or you may call it a miracle. Still, without question, according to the automobile experts on the scene, this was a remarkable event that followed prayer. Funny but remarkable events and coincidences often follow prayer. Craig Brian Larson, 750 Engaging Illustrations for Preachers, Teachers & Writers (Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books, 2002), 351–352. I had the same miracle along this line occur, and it resulted in a person giving their heart to Jesus. Why Your Miracle Testimony of God’s Healing Power is Vital, that’s our focus on this week’s Light On Life.

Podcast Notes

Sharon’s Miracle Testimony

  • On December 24th, 2001, while working as a home health aide, my head exploded.
  • This is my journey.
  • This is how I survived the black hole I fell into on that fateful night.
  • This is how the Lord, by His great power and outstretched arm, allowed me to survive the most cataclysmic of traumas.
  • This is my miracle testimony.

My Miracle Testimony: One Day in December…

  • The morning of December 24th, 2001, was like any other Christmas Eve.
  • It was an exciting day in the Horvath household — always has been.
  • Christmas Eve is the one day in the year I did not look forward to working.
  • I noticed something odd this particular day.
  • My head was cold and icy.
  • Cold enough to warrant wearing my blue wool cap indoors.
  • My baby daughter Kristi had just turned eleven years old a few days before.
  • Kristi is the self-appointed keeper of Christmas tradition in the Horvath household.
  • The day before, Kristi began the annual holiday interrogation.
  • She asked everyone in the house what their favorite day of the year was.
  • Of course, there was only one right answer.
  • The family looked forward with anticipation to the events of the evening, which included the playful performance of the Christmas story.
  • Unfortunately, I will not be with them because I am finishing my work shift.
  • Little did I know that I would not be able to come home at all for the next twenty-one days.

My Miracle Testimony: The Woman in Black

  • When I arrived at work, I did so with a funny feeling in my spirit.
  • I kept sensing and feeling things like death.
  • This sense had stalked me for the previous two weeks.
  • Really, I did not connect the dots.
  • My only brother Jason had tragically passed away in July, right before his fortieth birthday.
  • A stray bullet from a drug-inspired gun battle found its mark as he lay asleep in his bed in New Jersey.
  • I carried the overwhelming pain of that loss every waking day.
  • So, I dismissively thought, “You are still grieving, girl. Get over it already.”
  • But the sense was there.
  • I could not shake it off.
  • The sense of death gripped me.
  • It encased me to such an extent that when Emery and the children would end any conversation with me during those days, I would say to them, “Don’t say goodbye to me when your hang up the phone.”
  • I couldn’t take it.
  • It all seemed so final to me.
  • During those two weeks, I wrote all the children letters expressing my love for them.
  • I found myself scribbling phrases like, “Keep your grades up even if I am not with you.”
  • The progression was such that I said to my best friend at the time, “If anything happens to me, please help Emery with the kids.”
  • Clueless as a flying bat in the daytime, I wore black continually in those days.
  • I urged Emery to remarry at one point because the kids must have a mother.
  • Emery just laughed.
  • I understood why he laughed.
  • A forty-two-year-old woman has no business making such plans.

My Miracle Testimony: What the Lord Said

  • As I write about these events today, I can see how plain the signs were.
  • I was acting on the outside, what I was sensing on the inside.
  • But this is December the 24th now, the happiest day of the year, right?
  • My head is cold.
  • I can’t wait for this shift to be over to go home.
  • My patient was acting more difficult than usual.
  • Like there wasn’t enough stress already.
  • I gave her some medicine to help her rest.
  • Then, my thoughts went to taking some medicine of my own; maybe it would help me get through the remaining hours.
  • Suddenly, the Spirit of God rose in me and said, “Don’t take it!”

My Miracle Testimony: My Head Explodes

  • I am so glad that I listened to the Spirit of God this time.
  • Like all of us, I have had those moments where I haven’t listened.
  • You know those rationalizing moments where I talked myself out of what my heart was communicating.
  • If I had not listened to the Spirit of God and instead overrode the prompting in my heart, the story would have ended here with my death.
  • Thirty minutes after the Spirit’s directive, my head exploded.
  • My neck drew up like I was being sucked up an air chute.
  • With some experience in the medical profession, I knew this was no ordinary headache.

My Miracle Testimony: The Blood of Jesus

  • At this point, you must understand that I have known the Lord Jesus Christ since childhood.
  • My parents were gospel ministers and won-lost souls to Jesus.
  • I grew up with Jesus all around me.
  • Everyone comes to the crossroads of life, and when you do, you will react according to your training.
  • Here I’m talking about spiritual training.
  • As the pain intensified and squeezed me like a vise, I called on the Blood of Jesus.
  • I pleaded the Blood! – and drew a figurative blood circle around me, binding the hand of the enemy.
  • On the subject of binding, Jesus said in Matthew 16.

Matthew 16:19 (ESV) — 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

  • A couple of chapters later, Jesus reiterated the same thing.

Matthew 18:18 (ESV) — 18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

My Miracle Testimony: No Ordinary Problem

  • The time on the clock said 11:45 PM.
  • I knew I had to call home and wake up Emery.
  • Jessica, my oldest daughter, was up reading, and immediately she knew something was wrong.
  • “You’re kidding; you want me to do what, wake Daddy up?”
  • You must understand, nobody wakes Daddy up.
  • The unusual, almost suicidal request was how she knew this was no ordinary problem.
  • “Please, please go and wake him up, my head, my head, I can’t take it.”
  • I walked around the entire time while I waited on my husband.
  • With every step, the words “I plead the Blood of Jesus over my life” continued to resonate throughout the midnight air.
  • I say midnight air because, at one point, my head hurt so bad that I put it into a pile of snow outside just to get some relief.
  • Unable to stand any longer, I completely collapsed on the couch when Emery arrived.

My Miracle Testimony: “You Just Have a Migraine”

  • Christmas day rose to meet us as we made the hospital ER trip.
  • The doctor on call said, “You are just having a migraine.”
  • Medicine is the cure for the explosion in my head, really?
  • I wish it would have been that easy.
  • After they administered the medication, the doctor said he would be back to check on me in ten minutes.
  • “Ten minutes? I’ll be dead in ten minutes.”
  • Literally, life was leaving my body.
  • Within moments of taking that medication, my body went into convulsions.
  • I am told I flopped like a carp on dry ground.
  • I didn’t remember much after this.
  • In fact, almost an entire month of my life was never input into my memory banks.
  • I must depend on Emery for the rest of this story to supply the details.
  • I have tried to remember, but I cannot. I am a curious and intrusive question asker by nature.
  • I have tried and tried to meddle into my brain and pull out the details of the rest of the story.
  • I can’t access it.
  • It is maddening to me.

My Miracle Testimony: Here’s What I Don’t Remember

  • My husband tells me the doctor x-rayed my head.
  • My husband tells me they Life-Lined me by helicopter to another hospital.
  • Wow, it was my first time flying in a helicopter, and I can’t even remember it.
  • My husband tells me the surgeon drilled a hole in my head at 10:30 AM Christmas morning to relieve the pressure on my brain.
  • I was sitting up in bed after that, just talking away.
  • Emery said, but I have no memory of it.
  • There was a second surgery that lasted almost six hours.
  • The surgeon opened my head, took out my brain; laid it to the side; clipped the aneurysm; put in a shunt, returned my brain back into my head, sowed me up, and put me into ICU.
  • I spent twenty-one total days in the hospital, nineteen of them in intensive care.
  • Three weeks of my life went by, and I had only faint glimpses of memory.
  • My husband tells me that I almost died four times during those twenty-one days.
  • But there was one thing I did remember, the pain.

My Miracle Testimony: The Man with the Light

  • The pain of post-surgery was excruciating.
  • You see, the brain doesn’t like having blood on it.
  • At one point, the arteries to my brain began to spasm, cutting off circulation to my brain.
  • They rushed me to somewhere; I don’t even know where, some another area of the hospital, and they got some medicine in me to help open up the artery.
  • This happened three times.
  • But oh, this was so painful.
  • It rose to such a level that a man came to me with a bright light one night.
  • The man said, “Come with me, and you will be out of pain. You won’t hurt anymore.”
  • I started to follow the man, and suddenly I said, ‘No, wait, I have to talk to Angel first.”
  • I don’t remember asking the nurses to call Emery, but they told him I was insistent.
  • I had to talk to him.
  • Emery’s first reaction was, ‘That’s nice,’ Sharon saw an angel.
  • On the way home from the hospital that evening.
  • I was running this story Sharon told me about the Man with the Light through my mind.
  • During the twenty-one days that she spent in the hospital, I made it a point never to leave until I had at least some good news or sense of progress.
  • I came to a stoplight.
  • And suddenly, as I was thinking about the Man with the Light, I saw it.
  • This verse of scripture, 2 Corinthians 11:4, rose out of my heart.
  • This was the turning point.

2 Corinthians 11:14 (ESV) — 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

  • Emery saw that everyone was praying for me.
  • Everyone believed for my recovery.
  • We are all on the same page.
  • We are all of one accord. What this ‘Man with the Light’ was asking me to do was opposite what everyone was praying!
  • Immediately, Emery rebuked the devil and took authority over this false angel of light in Jesus’ name.
  • I realized that God had been with us and had brought us through to this point, so why would God send an angel to beckon her to the other side?
  • Sharon then had her second spasm.
  • The second was much worse than the first.
  • The spasm shrunk the blood vessel in her head further, and it didn’t open back up as did the first go around.
  • The result was that Sharon’s pain level was ever greater.
  • The pain was so strong Sharon literally went looking for the man with the light in the hopes of getting some relief.
  • A voice spoke up in her room as she searched.
  • The Man with the Light said, “I can’t come back; Emery has taken authority over me.”

My Miracle Testimony: Where I Am Today

  • It’s been over twenty years since the aneurysm.
  • I am a senior citizen today.
  • At the time of this podcast, I am 62 years old.
  • Emery and I have just celebrated 40 years of marriage.
  • I am a grandmother of five, and we just found out that number six is on the way.
  • My youngest daughter, the keeper of Christmas, just turned thirty-one.
  • I lived to see all my children grow up, and two of them graduated college.
  • How I am enjoying every day of my life.
  • It’s all because of Jesus.
  • It’s all because one Christmas Eve, twenty-two years ago, the Spirit of God said to me, “Don’t take that medicine.”
  • It doesn’t cost to obey God.
  • It pays.

Emery’s Miracle Testimony:

The Healing of Sleep Apnea

  • This is a new year.
  • In fact, this year, I’m celebrating the 15th year of being healed from sleep apnea.
  • Fifteen years ago, the Lord delivered me from this condition in April.
  • Here’s my miracle testimony.
  • I had the condition for seven years.
  • The year it all began was 2000.
  • That year was tough for us.
  • Life has its challenges.
  • Sharon and I were raising four children and were dealing with the effects of the brain aneurysm that almost took her life.
  • We were in the middle of pastoring.
  • So, here I am, a teacher of the Word.
  • Knowing that God said, ‘what things soever you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.’
  • Knowing that God said, ‘Ask, and it shall be given to you — seek and you shall find — Knock and the door shall be open to you. For every one that asks receives and he that seeks finds into him that knocks it shall be opened.
  • I knew these verses.
  • And I know what it means to believe that you receive.
  • But I struggled.
  • I’m almost embarrassed and ashamed to admit how hard it was for me.
  • The pull of having a good night’s sleep was so strong on me.
  • I’m not making excuses.
  • I’m here to tell you today that God is a good God.
  • He had mercy upon me.
  • So, on this singular day in April, I’m standing in my bedroom, looking at the bed.
  • I felt bad as I recounted all the things that I just shared with you about my struggles.
  • Suddenly, I heard a voice coming from behind me.
  • The voice uttered two words.
  • It was a voice I’d never heard before.
  • I don’t know who the voice owner is even to this day.
  • Could it have been an angel? I don’t know.
  • Was it the Holy Spirit?
  • I don’t know if it was the Holy Spirit, God the Father, or the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • I just know I heard these two words — ‘you’re healed.’
  • I knew enough not to examine the source of the voice because it’s not important.
  • People get pulled off course because they want to examine the supernatural.
  • They want to know all the details — the who — the what, the when, and the why.
  • They end up getting over into the mental realm and lose the whole thing.
  • What’s vital is not who spoke the Word but the truth the words communicated.
  • It’s always the Word — always the Word.
  • When I heard those two words, ‘you’re healed, I immediately looked to the Word.
  • Is that in the Bible? — you’re healed?
  • Yep — sure is – 1 Peter 2:24.
  • I agreed with what I had heard.
  • In fact, I said to the Lord, ‘Lord, I agree with that I’m healed.
  • I looked at that CPAP machine and said that I don’t need you tonight because I’m healed.
  • And I am telling you today, and God is my witness, that I have never used a breathing machine again from that day to this.
  • I don’t even know what happened to that thing.
  • The Lord totally healed me that day, and I’m still healed all these years later.
  • Now, what tremendous thing did I do to be healed?
  • Who had the greater part?
  • Who had the harder end?
  • All I did was agree with what I heard.
  • All I did was act on the two words that I heard.
  • And that easy thing turned into total freedom.

Miracle Testimony: Facing Death and Devils

  • The trials of life come to everyone.
  • You will never be so strong in faith that you won’t ever experience difficulties.

Luke 6:46–49 (NLT) — 46 “So why do you call me ‘Lord,’ when you won’t obey me? 47 I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then obeys me. 48 It is like a person who builds a house on a strong foundation laid upon the underlying rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against the house, it stands firm because it is well built. 49 But anyone who listens and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will crumble into a heap of ruins.”

  • Sharon’s aneurysm was a genetic defect; we found that out later.
  • She literally had a time bomb ticking in her head.
  • Genetic defects don’t come from heaven.
  • God is not the author of such things.
  • Genetic defects are part of the curse of the fall.
  • Again, my point is the trials of life come to everyone.
  • Jesus, Himself, was not exempt from the testing of life.

Matthew 4:1 (ESV) — 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

  • Notice the source of these kinds of tests.
  • The scripture says that the devil tempted Jesus.
  • It did not say He was tempted by God the Father.
  • God’s not your problem.
  • He is not the one that’s against you; He is for you.

Romans 8:31 (ESV) — 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

  • God was for Sharon, and He was for me.
  • The devil is not out healing people.
  • He’s not out trying to help people recover from a brain aneurysm.
  • Satan isn’t healing people of sleep apnea.

John 10:10 (ESV) — 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

  • God is about life.
  • The enemy is about death.
  • If it steals, kills, and destroys, it’s the devil.
  • That’s simple to understand.
  • Listen to this verse in Acts ten.

Acts 10:38 (ESV) — 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

  • The scripture says here that healing is good.
  • Oppression is of the devil, and that’s bad.
  • So, sickness is oppression.
  • If it’s Satan, you can resist it.
  • If it’s the enemy, you have authority over it.
  • Jesus gave that to you.
  • That authority that Jesus gave us is what I used to speak that false, deceptive Angel of Light.
  • And when that authority was exercised, that demon couldn’t operate anymore.
  • Now, here’s the truth you have that same authority.
  • God gave it to the church.
  • Listen to these verses.

Matthew 28:18–20 (ESV) — 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Mark 16:17–20 (ESV) — 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” 19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.

Miracle Testimony: Why It’s Good to Have a Reservoir of Scripture in Your Heart

  • If you look at how much sickness is in the world today, you will understand why it’s vital to keep God’s Word concerning healing alive in your heart.
  • In the cases above, the testimonies I shared with you, God’s Word was the difference between living and dying.
  • Here are just a few general principles that you can tuck away in your heart to help keep you ‘on point’ in this area of keeping the Word alive in you.
  1. If you wait to get faith when you need faith, you are too late.
  2. A Bible that’s falling apart probably belongs to someone who isn’t.
  3. It is good to mark your Bible, but it is better to let your Bible mark you.
  4. What is in you in abundance will come out of you in due season.

Luke 6:45 (NLT) – 45 A good person produces good deeds from a good heart, and an evil person produces evil deeds from an evil heart. Whatever is in your heart determines what you say.

  • And what you say in the critical moments of life is the difference between death and dying and living and life.
  1. Never talk death, no matter how bad it looks.
  • Do not program death into your heart.
  • Have a scripture reservoir of life in your heart, not a death reservoir of death and defeat in your heart.
  • Fight death thoughts always.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV) — 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
