The world is perishing for lack of the knowledge of God and the Church is famishing for want of His Presence. This would lift us out of our pitiful narrowness and cause our hearts to be enlarged 1. These are penetrating words from the pen of Tozer. Does your heart agree with these words? Do you hunger and crave the Presence of God? This is the first of a two part post on this important aspect of life in the Spirit.

More How to Cultivate Gods Presence in Your Life

Psalm 91 is famous for the comfort it brings to the children of God. Verse one is a declaration about God’s Presence. “He who dwells in the secret pace of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I don’t know about you, but I sure like the sound of abiding under God’s shadow or presence. But there is even more good news. The Psalmist also declares that in God’s presence there is fulness of joy (Psalm 16:11). Joy, peace and protection, what more can you ask for? And it all comes from His Presence. This week we are going to continue the post we began last week on “How to Cultivate God’s Presence in Your Life.”

What Does Nature Itself Teach about Life in the Spirit?

Our first house had zero landscape when we first moved in. No trees at all, nothing. Today, many years later a huge oak tree sits firmly planted in the front yard. The tree stands as as sentinel. It owns the ground it stands on. Looking at that tree brings back fond memories for me. My children spent hours climbing it. They even camped out up in the tree and read many an afternoon. That tree had a part in my children’s development. As the tree grew, my kids grew right along with it. The Bible gives us similar pictures from nature which help to visually describe for us the nuances of spirit life. Here’s some thoughts from the Word of God along this line.

Jesus the Door: Understanding and Knowing Jesus by His Names

In the Gospel of John there are seven ‘I am’ statements that Jesus made concerning Himself. There is much to learn about Jesus just by studying these names. Jesus said, ‘I am the Bread of Life’; ‘I am the Good Shepherd’; ‘I am the Resurrection and the Life’; ‘I am the Light of the World’; ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life’; ‘I am the True Vine’; and the subject of this post ‘I am the Door’.

Holy Spirit Encounters with Lost People

Phillip had a divinely inspired encounter with a lost person. The woman at the well had a Holy Spirit laced encounter with Jesus as did Nathanael. And what about the day of Pentecost? Are these encounters a pattern of how soul winning can be carried out? Let’s investigate God’s Word on the matter and see how the Holy Spirit encounters lost people.

Four Holy Spirit Secrets on Life and Living

Here are four eclectic thoughts on the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of a born again believer. They are, the relationship between being led and  hastiness. The relationship between integrity and being led. How the Holy Spirit leveled the playing field for mankind. And finally, the importance of the group or ‘body’ mentality in the church.

Manifestations of the Spirit

Jesus told us in John 15:5 that apart from Him believers would not have the ability to produce results. Jesus said these words in the same breath as He spoke of the ministry of the Holy Spirit that was coming into view on planet earth. The Holy Spirit was coming, Jesus said, to be our Comforter and Helper (John 14:16), our teacher (John 14:26) and our guide (John 16:13). Learning all you can about working with the Holy Spirit will help you produce results; for it is in conjunction with His ministry through the believer that we can produce fruits fit for the kingdom of God.

Lessons in Hearing God

There are multiple ways to be led by the Spirit of God. Here are two ways you might ponder in this area of being led by the Lord in your everyday life. Area one, by the Spirit of God directly; area two, by interpreting situations in the light of the love of God. With that being said, there are some valuable lessons that one can learn in this arena of hearing the Lord. Some of these lessons may help accelerate the learning curve. Consider the following.

Preparing the Way of the Lord

Isaiah 40:3-5 speaks of preparing a highway for God. This prophecy concerns the first coming of Jesus. According to Jesus, John the Baptist was of the instruments God used to prepare this highway for the Messiah. But, there is another coming of Jesus, a Second Coming. Another highway has to be built for the return of Jesus. How can we cooperate with God in this area? God’s heart has always been to flood the entire earth with His glory. How can we help prepare a highway for our God?
