The Rewards and Blessings of the Highly Diligent

Scripture List

There are rewards and blessings for those who walk in diligence.

Diligence, the Bible speaks a great deal of the importance of this word as it connects to our everyday life. What is diligence and what do the scriptures say about this all-important character trait? Here are a plethora of Bible verses on the subject. You could even call this a scripture list of which there are already several on this website. The truth is the more fanatical you are about Jesus, the more fervent and zealous you are about His plan for your life, the greater the impact you are going to make for the Kingdom of God. Let’s drill down a bit into this life-changing Bible word.

[Tweet “With diligence, you cleave to God’s Word and by doing so you reap His blessings.”]

  • It always pays to start with a definition.
  • The word diligent invokes the following meaning; earnestness, seriousness, zeal, to hasten to do a thing, to exert oneself, carefulness.
  • Sometimes the lack of these traits can lead to a shipwrecked life.
  • According to the Associated Press, on December 14, 1996, a 763-foot grain freighter, the Bright Field, was heading down the Mississippi at New Orleans, Louisiana, when it lost control, veered toward the shore, and crashed into a riverside shopping mall. At the time the Riverwalk Mall was crowded with some 1,000 shoppers, and 116 people were injured. The impact of the freighter demolished parts of the wharf, which is the site of two hundred shops and restaurants as well as the adjoining Hilton Hotel. The ship had lost control at the stretch in the Mississippi that is considered the most dangerous to navigate. After investigating the accident for a year, the Coast Guard reported that the freighter had lost control because the engine had shut down. The engine had shut down because of low oil pressure. The oil pressure was low because of a clogged oil filter. And the oil filter was clogged because the ship’s crew had failed to maintain the engine properly. Furthermore, this failure was not out of character. According to the lead Coast Guard investigator, the ship’s owner and crew had failed to test the ship’s equipment and to repair long-standing engine problems. Sudden disasters frequently have a long history behind them.1
  • How often have we been on the wrong end of a really negative circumstance and wondered why this was happening to us?
  • Could it be, is it possible that somewhere downline, the actual root of the problem was as simple as a clogged oil filter?
  • That had we have been diligent, had we been careful, had we been zealous, and hastened to do what we know we should be doing, had we dotted our eye’s and crossed our T’s, we might have averted the calamity that befell us?
  • To this end, to spur your thinking in this area, here are some scriptures to help build this important concept into your heart.
