Your Powerful Victory Over Satan the Devil – Part 2

Your Powerful Victory Over Satan the Devil - Part 2

It’s crucial to expose Satan as the devil. There is a legend of Martin Luther, that, during a severe illness, the Evil One entered his sickroom and, looking at him with a triumphant smile, unrolled a big scroll which he carried in his arms. As the fiend threw one end of it on the floor, it unwound by itself. Luther’s eyes read the long, fearful record of his sins, one by one. That stout heart quailed before the ghastly roll. Suddenly it flashed into Luther’s mind that there was one thing not written there. He cried aloud: “One thing you have forgotten.

The rest is all true, but one thing you have forgotten: ‘The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.’” And as he said this, the Accuser of the Brethren and his heavy roll disappeared.1 This story may be a legend where Martin Luther is concerned but Satan, the devil, for sure is no legend. Your Powerful Victory Over Satan the Devil – Part 2, that’s our focus on this week’s Light on Life.

Accept the Challenge

Each week’s Podcast contains a call to action. The Word of God will not produce in your life unless you put it into operation.
This weeks call is:

The Word of God teaches us in Luke 10:19 that we have authority over Satan, the Devil. That’s good news. It’s good news because there is no work of the enemy that Jesus is Lord over. But, the authority Jesus died to purchase is useless unless you use it in real-life situations.

Join the Conversation

Each week’s Podcast also contains a question designed to encourage testimony. Testimony is vital to a believer’s life. We overcome by it (Rev. 12:11).
This week’s question is:

Question: Spiritual life is all about adjustments. Which ones do you need to make to take your place as God’s ‘dominion’ representative on the earth?

Podcast Notes

Scriptural Titles for Satan

  • Let’s take another look at our main text.

Revelation 12:7–10 (ESV) — 7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.

  • This passage is one of several vital passages which exposes the arch-enemy of the saints.
  • In it, we have six descriptors for the enemy: he is called the great dragon, the ancient serpent, the devil, Satan, the deceiver, and the accuser.
  • In three previous podcast, Your Powerful Victory Over Satan the Dragon, Your Powerful Victory Over Satan the Serpent, and Your Powerful Victory Over Satan the Devil – Part 1, we looked into the Word of God to expose the works of the greatest opponent to the Lord and humankind.
  • This week, we continue that focus for the Word of the Lord has come saying: ‘Study Satan and expose him.’
  • So, this week, we take a further look at Satan, the Devil.

My Encounter with Jesus

  • People are being deceived in record numbers where the devil is concerned.
  • They act and live every day like there is no God.
  • But, I know Jesus is real because I met him back in July of 1976 as a nineteen-year-old college student.
  • I walked into the library of the school I was attending, and there was a young man by the name of Mark, reading his Bible.
  • Being the cynical Catholic that I was, I rolled up my hips right over to where he sat.
  • I was cynical for sure, but curious at the same time.
  • Mark began to tell me his story of how he encountered Jesus.
  • It turns out Mark was in the military, and he had an encounter alright, with LSD.
  • His mind was so fried that he ran through the barracks, ripping his clothes off, saying he was Jesus Christ.
  • That is until he met the real Jesus Christ.
  • When Mark said yes to Jesus, the Lord healed his mind.
  • He pulled out his GPA score and showed it to me, and he had 4.0 in Electronic Engineering!
  • A guy whose mind was totally blown is now an A+ student.
  • Needless to say, I was impressed.
  • But, there was more.
  • He said, do you want to hear the topper to all of this?
  • Topper? You mean there is something bigger than what I just heard?
  • “Yea, I said, what is it?’
  • He said, “I’ve been I studying the Bible for a year, and I asked the Lord last night if He would send somebody by so that I could tell that person about Jesus, and in you walked.”
  • When Mark finished those words, God is my witness; something hit me from the back of my head and went down my spine.
  • I didn’t realize what that ‘something’ was at the time, but I found out later — that that was the Presence of God.
  • Now, I am utterly flabbergasted.
  • This kind of stuff doesn’t happen to Catholics, or at least I thought it didn’t.
  • I mean, God doesn’t answer your prayer on a small personal level, does he?
  • My theology had been flat-lined, and I didn’t even know it.
  • I mean, it was like the Spirit of God took electric resuscitation paddles that they use to shock the heart and shocked my theology.
  • Shortly after this, I gave my life to Jesus.
  • That took place in as I bowed my head in a college studio apartment with my leg strapped over a recliner.
  • Jesus was now Lord of my life.

My Encounter with Satan the Devil

  • Some ask the question, “Well, what’s the first change you noticed after Jesus came into your heart?
  • The first sense I had was hunger.
  • I had a craving to know the Bible. — hungry to know.
  • The next day I went to a bookstore in the mall and purchased a paperback I still have in my library today; ‘The Bible as History.
  • Some experience incredible love when they come to Jesus, some an extraordinary level of peace, but for me, it was hunger.
  • That hunger drove me to seek God.
  • I would get up every morning early to pray.
  • One morning, I was still a bit tired after prayer, and I decide to lay back down for a little more sleep before heading off to school.
  • Immediately, I saw Satan: he was dressed in a black cape standing parallel to my bed.
  • I couldn’t make out any other feature — his whole being was just dark — face everything — all dark.
  • No one needed to interpret this for me as to who this was — I knew it was the Prince of Darkness.
  • All of a sudden, to the very left of this cloaked figure in the corner of the room at the top of the ceiling, a small penlight appeared.
  • The light began to grow bigger and bigger in the upper corner of the room.
  • When the light grew to maybe a little bigger than a basketball or soccer ball, that light moved toward Satan.
  • And, as the light headed the enemy’s direction, Satan immediately vanished.
  • Jesus is Lord, Lord over death, hell, and Satan – and as soon as He showed up, the devil booked on out.
  • He didn’t even wait for the Light to fully manifest before He was out of there.

James 2:19 (ESV) — 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!

  • Shudder is the devil’s response to Light.
  • The Greek word translated as ‘shudder’ is a verb — it’s an action, a response to Light.
  • It means to tremble convulsively, as from fear.
  • The enemy goes into convulsions at the sight of Jesus.
  • Now, I didn’t see that in this mini vision or dream, I’m not sure which one it was.
  • All I saw was the lightning-fast disappearing act.
  • The very Presence of Jesus caused it.
  • After the enemy warped out of the room, the light moved to the spot where Satan stood and continued to grow and grow in brightness.
  • And, out of that brightness, spoke a voice saying, “I AM the Lord your God.”
  • It’s been 44 years this month since that’s happened, and I’ve never forgotten this experience.
  • So, the devil came to intimidate me and left intimidated himself.
  • Intimidation is one of his works — he tries to be a bully.
  • But, he can’t get away with it if you stand your ground.
  • With all that said, let’s look at some more of Satan’s works.

The Works of Satan the Devil: Sower of Evil People

  • Here is another work of Satan, the devil located in Matthew’s gospel.

Matthew 13:36–39 (ESV) — 36 Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” 37 He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.

  • Satan, the devil, is not just a sower of evil, but a sower of evil people.
  • Demons seek to find expression through man, that’s why they try to possess humans.
  • You may not have ever heard of this work of Satan in quite these words, but take a listen to the Lord Jesus on this.
  • In a previous parable, the Parable of the Sower in Mark four, Jesus said the ‘good seed’ is the Word of God — that’s Mark 4:14.
  • But, in this parable in Matthew’s gospel, the Parable of the Weeds of the Field, the ‘good seed’ are the sons of the kingdom.
  • Is there some deviation here on Jesus’ part?
  • Is He changing symbols?
  • No, He’s not.
  • Just ask yourself the question, ‘how does one become a son of God’s Kingdom?’
  • You become a son of the kingdom by receiving with meekness the engrafted Word, which is able to save your soul.

James 1:21 (KJV) — 21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

  • In other words, ‘son’s of the Kingdom is the by-product’ of the Word sown as seed.
  • Now, look at the word ‘engrafted.’
  • ‘En-grafted’ Word’ is King James’ language.
  • The ESV has James 1:21 as follows:

James 1:21 (ESV) — 21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

  • So the ‘good seed’ is the Word implanted in the willing heart of a person.
  • That ‘good seed’ implanting or grafting process, depending on your translation, sprouts into the new birth and, by it, entrance into the Kingdom of God as a son.
  • Now, the enemy, the devil comes Jesus said, and what does he sow? — sons of the evil one.
  • And with that thought, here’s the question of the day.
  • How does the enemy get evil sons?
  • Well scripturally, he doesn’t actually get them – he keeps them from receiving Jesus by blinding their minds.

2 Corinthians 4:4 (ESV) — 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

  • To accomplish this, he sows lies about God, and when people believe them, they are kept in a state of bondage.
  • Now, you have to understand why the new birth is necessary.
  • Jesus spoke of the new birth or being born-again.

John 3:3 (ESV) — 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

  • Why do we have to be born a second time?
  • Well, every human being enters the world via the birth canal.
  • There is no other way to get onto planet earth.
  • But, don’t just think in terms of physical birth here.
  • Newborn babes are born both physically and spiritually alive.
  • Spiritual meaning that their spirits are in contact with God.
  • So, if a small child dies, that child goes to heaven because they are alive inside.
  • David experienced this heartbreaking tragedy.

2 Samuel 12:22–23 (ESV) — 22 He said, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, ‘Who knows whether the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ 23 But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.”

  • David knew he was going to be with the Lord, and so he said, “I will go to my infant child who died, but he will not come back to me.”
  • Small children go to heaven when they die, all of them.
  • So, if you have lost a young one, take courage.
  • You didn’t actually lose them.
  • They are in heaven waiting for you.
  • The angels are caring for them for you until you get there so you can finish raising them.
  • But, there does come a day when a child reaches, what we call, ‘the age of accountability.’
  • Paul refers to this in the book of Romans.

Romans 7:9 (ESV) — 9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died.

  • When the commandment came, sin revived, and a death took place, that’s what Paul just got through saying.
  • The word ‘revived’ means to become active from a depressed, inactive, or unused state, conceived of as becoming alive again.
  • So sin, meaning the sin nature, became active from an unused state in Paul.
  • That phenomenon is aka ‘the age of accountability.’
  • A child reaches a certain age ‘when the commandment comes’, that is, he or she is presented with a commandment from God, and with full consciousness of right and wrong, defies that commandment.
  • When this defiance takes place, sin revives, and the child’s spirit dies, that is becomes disconnected from God.
  • That was Paul’s experience.
  • And, not only to Paul but the same ‘death’ happens to every human person walking the planet when the commandment comes.
  • A child in this state is no different than an adult as far as the need for Jesus.
  • If either the child or the adult dies in this condition, they will not go to heaven.
  • The only way out of this ‘lost’ state, the only way back to reconnection with God, is via His Son Jesus Christ.
  • Except you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.
  • This is the rebirth that is the experience Jesus references in John three.
  • So, you can see the tremendous ongoing war on planet earth.

Good Sons Versus Evil Sons, Another Look

  • My spiritual dad said many times that Bible truth is like climbing a mountain.
  • The view you have depends on what side of the mountain you are on.
  • So here is another view of good sons versus evil sons.
  • Hear something else, Jesus said.

John 8:41–44 (ESV) — 41 You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father—even God.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. 43 Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

  • Jesus told the religious crowd that they were of their father, the devil.
  • Translating this to 21st century speak, your daddy is the devil.
  • I mean, there are only two choices: either God is your father, or the devil is your father.
  • In the earth realm today, there are two fathers and two families.
  • There is God, the Most High God, and Father, and the devil the Most Low’ little g god’ ‘kicked out of heaven father.’
  • Two fathers — two families: every human person walking on the planet today is a member of one of these two families.
  • Either they or you are a child of God or a child of the devil.
  • Every human person belongs to one of the two families.
  • From this perspective, there are no orphans on planet earth.
  • There may be orphans naturally but not spiritually.
  • Everyone belongs to one of two families.
  • If you are born again, you are in God’s family; otherwise, by default, you are in the devil’s family.
  • So, there are evil sons and good sons on planet earth — the difference between the two is what they have done with Jesus.
  • The Lord Jesus Christ made this whole ‘family’ piece pretty simple.
  • The good seed produces a harvest via the implanted Word in the heart.
  • Bad seed produces a harvest also via the implanted world system in the soul.
  • Implanted Word, implanted world, that’s the difference between two families.
  • And so, one of the works of the devil is that he sows evil people.
  • Maybe these words from Jesus will enlighten your heart further along this line.

Matthew 23:15 (ESV) — 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.

  • As a side note, remember that hypocritical scribes and Pharisees or religious people are children of the devil, but they are not the only children in the devil’s family.
  • Now getting back to Matthew 23:15 – notice what Jesus points out, in this passage, about proselytes.
  • Proselytes are like their mentors.
  • It’s the Law of Genesis in action.
  • Everything and everyone produces after their own kind.
  • Devils produce devils and saints produce saints.
  • And religious hypocrites produce the same.
  • Jesus said they’re twice as bad.
  • This whole ‘like produces like’ reproduction continues until Jesus steps in.
  • He breaks the cycle.
  • How does He do it?
  • The new birth brings a family change.

Colossians 1:13 (ESV) — 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,

  • A transfer takes place.
  • Louw Nida says the Greek word ‘transferred’ means to cause a change of state, with emphasis upon the difference in the resulting state — ‘to transform.’ 2
  • You’ve entirely changed states: that is, the nature of the devil to the nature of God, that is from lost to saved, that is from born once to born twice, that is from the domain of darkness to light.
  • The Greek word ‘domain’ means a domain understood by the authority necessary to exercise such dominion.
  • Child of God, you are no longer under Satan’s authority.
  • Even though you didn’t realize it, you responded to ‘thus saith Satan.’
  • You went along with his way, all the while, thinking it was your way.
  • Like the songwriter said, ‘I did it my way’, but he was in error because your way was directly under the influence of the Prince Puppeteer of this world.
  • Now, this no longer true.
  • You have a new name, child of God.
  • You know, in America, the wife normally takes on the name of the husband in marriage.

2 Corinthians 11:2–3 (ESV) — 2 For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. 3 But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

  • You can understand now why there has to be a hell.
  • There are yet other evil works that come solely by Satan, the devil’s hand.
  • But that’s for another podcast.
  • You guys have a great God week in Jesus Name — Amen.
